Background of the Study

Breast cancer is one of the most common cancers affecting women, and early detection through screening plays a crucial role in improving survival rates. Nurse-led health education programs have the potential to increase awareness and promote compliance with breast cancer screening practices. This study will assess the impact of nurse-led health education on the compliance of women with breast cancer screening at Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital, Ekiti State.

Statement of the Problem

In many regions, women are not regularly participating in breast cancer screening due to lack of awareness, cultural barriers, or misconceptions about the procedure. Although health education has been recognized as an effective tool in increasing screening participation, the specific role of nurse-led education in promoting breast cancer screening compliance remains under-explored. This study seeks to examine the effectiveness of nurse-led health education in encouraging women to undergo regular breast cancer screenings.

Objectives of the Study

  1. To evaluate the effect of nurse-led health education on increasing breast cancer screening compliance among women.
  2. To identify the key factors that influence women’s decision to comply with breast cancer screening recommendations.
  3. To assess the role of oncology nurses in educating women about the importance of early detection.

Research Questions

  1. How does nurse-led health education impact breast cancer screening compliance among women at Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital?
  2. What factors influence women's willingness to comply with breast cancer screening after receiving health education?
  3. How do oncology nurses perceive their role in increasing breast cancer screening compliance?

Research Hypotheses

  1. Nurse-led health education significantly increases the rate of breast cancer screening compliance among women.
  2. Women who receive health education from oncology nurses are more likely to participate in breast cancer screening.

Scope and Limitations of the Study

This study will focus on women attending Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital for breast cancer screening services. Limitations include the possibility of social desirability bias in self-reported data and limited access to women who may be less receptive to screening.
